On May 24th, 2025, the Griffith Room at Woodland Towers was alive with energy as community members gathered for the premiere of a 15-minute short film dedicated to the local figure, Ted Fawm. This event showcased a documentary that served as a reminder of the rich history of sulky horse racing in our area.

A particularly memorable moment of the evening was the appearance of Ted’s daughter, Katherine, who shared treasured memorabilia from her father’s life.

The evening was further enhanced by Paul Bartlett from the Tavistock Historical Society, who took the stage to discuss the importance of horse racing in our community. His talk featured insights into “The Eel,” a remarkable horse from the 1910s that significantly impacted the local racing scene. Bartlett’s engaging anecdotes provided valuable context, deepening the audience’s understanding of how horse racing has become intertwined with our community’s heritage.

The Stratford & District History Society extends its gratitude to Kim Luckhardt and Woodland Towers for their support in making this event a great success.
