HPHA opens bids for demolition of Avon Crest – CTV News Kitchener

Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance announced that they are proceeding with plans to demolish Avon Crest, Stratford’s first hospital, by requesting bids to undertake the building’s destruction.

Retired architect Robert Lemon, of the group Save Avon Crest, spoke with CTV News Kitchener on Monday, January 30 to explain the group’s opposition to demolition and its support for repurposing the 132 year old building.

Quoting the Pritzker prize-winning French architects Lacaton & Vassal, Lemon argued that: “Demolition is an act of violence. It’s a waste of energy. It’s a waste of materials. It’s a waste of history.”

The position taken by HPHA remains unchanged and Andrew Williams still cannot present any idea of what will be done on the site after demolition.
