On January 17 Dean Robinson entranced an enthusiastic full house at the Queen’s Inn with tales of Stratford from his most recent publication, number 29!
Illustrated with images of familiar, even ordinary buildings – private residences, a bridge, the Allman Arena – Robinson revealed the unexpected and sometimes extraordinary stories behind them.
We learned, for instance, about Dr. Edward Henry Eidt, a forgotten hero of preservation who Robinson regards as the grandfather of our city’s park system.
In recovering these stories he demonstrated that local history, though certainly touched by world events, is more often comprised of personal stories. Such stories bind us together, helping us to understand who we are.
